Black Artist Feature: Hermella Kassaye

Hermella is a Nashville native majoring in Medicine, Health, and Society with a minor in African American Diaspora Studies. She is a multifaceted artist skilled in the saxophone, clarinet, painting, drawing, and photography. In her free time, she enjoys taking pictures around Nashville or working on an art piece that can range from abstract to portraits in oil or charcoal.

To Hermella, the phrase “New Beginnings” means a “fresh start on a clean slate. It is an opportunity to excel, revitalize, and a second chance." Hermella welcomes our first year students by encouraging them to step out of their comfort zone, whether it’s concerning classes, friends, or even food. “Follow your dreams, despite how tough it may be,” she explains, “but also, don’t be afraid to change majors."
