Kaitlin Joshua is a senior from Madison, Mississippi double majoring in Economics and Medicine, Health & Society. On campus she is involved in the McGill Project Creative Arts Committee, the NAACP Social Justice Committee, and the Vanderbilt Review Layout Board. Her interests range from health, policy, and politics to art and design. In her free time, she enjoys writing fiction, journaling, and reading. She is excited for New Dawn to be an open space for Black student voices.
Miquéla is a junior from Chicagoish, Illinois, planning to double major in Creative Writing and Communications of Science and Technology. She enjoys writing fiction and poetry, eating ice-cream and painting. On campus she is also the Opinion Editor for The Hustler, Vandy's student paper, and the McGill Project. Miquéla loves having the opportunity to showcase Vanderbilt's Black creatives and hopes to one day have best-selling novels that showcase Black characters that don't typically appear in literary fiction.
Jordan is a Sophomore from Atlanta, GA majoring in Communication Studies and Law, History, and Society. On campus, she is also involved in Vanderbilt's chapter of Toastmasters International, Melanated A Capella, and is a TAP mentor. In her free time, Jordan enjoys reading and creative writing, music, and coaching a girl's volleyball team.

Isabel is a junior from Huntsville, Alabama majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Spanish. In addition to New Dawn, she is on the Social Justice Committee of the NAACP and working on a research project in a cellular biology laboratory. She loves art and fashion, and in her free time, she enjoys exploring the intricacies of American politics, writing short stories and watching television and movies.

Ashli Alexander is a senior from Atlanta, GA studying Medicine, Health, and Society with a minor in Human and Organizational Development. On campus, Ashli is involved with Inside ‘Dores, Melanated A Cappella, and Voices of Praise. In her free time, Ashli enjoys trying new restaurants in Nashville and watching Grey’s Anatomy.
Princess Mazagwu is a graphic designer from Plano, TX majoring in Cognitive Studies and Computer Science. On campus, Princess does spoken word and participates in cultural showcases. She is constantly inspired by the work of Black fashion designers, artists, and musicians and hope to bring a voice to the Black arts community here on campus. Princess also hopes to write pieces featuring prominent Black creators who are making waves around the world.
Jair Powell is a senior from Chicago, IL studying chemistry & political science. In his spare time he enjoys running and cooking, and he has been doing photography for 7 years.
Who We Are
New Dawn is an online magazine highlighting Black life and experiences in the Vanderbilt community. The publication serves as a news source through covering events happening on campus, in the community, and around the world. Additionally, New Dawn is a creative outlet through featuring Black creatives in our Arts & Culture section.
Established in 2018, New Dawn follows in the footsteps of various publications dedicated to Black Vanderbilt students. The publication is currently under the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center.
